I can only echo the recent sentiments:

1. This is a beta project. Things happen. I see no reason to go backward unless that is the best way to do the beta work for Einstein.
2. Get yourselves well. That is way more important ;-)

and thank you for the update!

will probably remain so over the weekend.

Weekend has gone....

OK, speaking as a technician: no one specified which weekend ...

But back to serious talks; I have uploaded 3 wu's and hope I can report them before the deadline elapses.

BTW: Is AVX support (also for S6-CasA etc.) possible?

MrS posted this idea @Einstein in the Android thread.
I think it's a good idea since more and more cpu's have this feature and a lot of resources are wasted by not using these possibilities.

On the other hand we should be aware that this project is really driven very professional; they work on an improved algorithm, cuda 5.5, have arm wu's for Linux and Android, support for all types of GPU's, have plans to introduce the wisdom file for the fft for different platforms aso. They are working hard to improve the project, which is the core for the success here (Remember: the PetaFlop barrier is crossed and stable above 1 PF)

Post:
I run the app currently on my notebooks only. One of them has a build-in GTX470m. The GPU usage never exceeded 43% with very long periods of 1 - 2 %.
Checkpointing seems not to be the final solution; I stopped crunching with a wu @ 88,888% with a remaining time of <10 min; after restarting the remaining time jumped to > 25 min.
The work distribution does not work according the preferences. Also I've set to get FGRP #3 only, I got other wu's too, most of them casa's. And the GPU utilisation factor of 0.5 is also ignored. With a 'memory used' of only 127MB I could run easily 5 or 6 of these wu's. But this would require 6 or 8 core cpu's or in other words FGRP#3 only pc's.
If this is the final version according to the gpu usage a way must be found to run a stable combination of let's say 2 perseus arm wu's together with one FGRP#3, otherwise the GPU would run idle for longer periods.
Another way would be to make the gpu utilisation factor an argument for the wu type rather than to the pc's venue.

Yes, indeed, I've set my preferences to the new #3 wu's only and got casa 1.05 and GPR 1.33 but none of the new FGRP 3 wu's.

Could that be checked please?

Alexander

Edit: maybe because I've checked the run beta test apps ?

There seems to be an issue with the amount of work allocated by the Einstein server. I set my cache to 0 days and an additional of 0.05 days but got 63 of them.

I honestly don't expect anyone to stress these poor little Intel GPUs with more than one task at a time, so the "GPU utilization factor" was disabled there on purpose.

Hmm ... you could give it a try here at Albert; your work, my risk!

First of all, thanks to all who have tested the app so far.

However it seems we could use more testers & feedback, as we see quite a lot of Intel GPU tasks erroring out at Einstein@Home.

I wonder whether this is a driver problem, unfortunately the driver version is not yet recorded on Einstein@Home.

What are the driver versions used here?

Cheers

If someone encounters a driver problem try the following:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=3rd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+4000%2f2500&ZeroResult=True&lang=eng&ProdId=3498

This is how it should look like:

@ select product name one can find his product.
Add a dummy plug, reboot and things should work (did at least twice for me).

@ BM:
The settings needs rework; there is no tab to enable Intel-gpu like it is for AMD and nVidia and the GPU utilization factor of BRP apps has no effect.
GPU-Z says gpu usage between 86 and 98%, Mem usage dedicated 6MB, Mem usage dynamic 375MB. There is headroom left ...

11) Message boards : Wish List : For GPU WUs this project realy not grands enough credits. (Message 112679)
Posted 8 Jul 2013 by Alex
Post:
The thing with credit:
- you cannot buy anything with it
- there are many ways to calculate credits. Every way has winners and loosers. There is no 'fair way' for all crunchers.

The only way I use credits is: comparison of setups and hardware within one project. Getting out more of the hardware you have is one thing you can do for yourself with the benefit for the project to get more results (or incredible errors, it depends ... :-)) ).

Comparison between project will always fail. As an example: I still use a HD4850 which is no longer supported by this project, but it runs fine @ Milkyway and produces there up to 70k credis per day.

If you really want to see credits rising attach to the gpugrid fundraising project; it's easy to get a million credis in a couple of days. But that's not science.

If you have the feeling that there is a mismatch between cpu and gpu credits you should try different combinations of cpu's and gpu's. You will always get different results. Even swapping gpu's between pc's may change the results. So how can that ever be optimized for all setups?

Would be nice to see your recommendation for credit system and the comments from the winners and the loosers of that. Or, if you like really hard discussions, join one of the threads about credit new. Try BOINC and SETI forum for that.

Cheers

I rearranged my systems a bit because the gpu's are needed somwhere else, will get them back during the weekend. Is a non-amd system for the moment.

I followed the instructions given earlier and had the app running as 'Lokal'. Finished in a little bit more than 27 min. GPU usage ~98%, temp @ 38° (oversized cooler). Intel i3 3220 @ 3.3GHz Intel HD2500 BM 7.1.17 win7-64 GPU core clock 1050 MHz, GPU mem clock 666.7 MHz Mem usage dedicated 8MB, mem usage dynamic ~400MB GPU power reported as 2.9 W (GPU-Z 0.7.2)

one can follow the progress here: http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/results.php?hostid=6571

Will it help to keep that running? Requesting new wu's needs babysitting, stays dry for long periods.

Don't worry about different devices being Device 0, they will show up as CAL device 0, 1, 2, etc, or Cuda device 0, 1, 2, etc, or as OpenCL device 0, 1, 2 etc for a particular vendors platform, ie, AMD APP, Nvidia CUDA or Intel,
What you shouldn't have is two devices for the AMD APP platform with the same device number, What does CLinfo show? is that right, does Boinc run OpenCL apps on the right AMD GPU, or only on device 0?

I'd be very tempted to go down a few driver versions checking if the devices are displayed properly (fully cleaning out the drivers with the AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility each time) and recheck operation.

Claggy

ATM I have some ati-wu's in queue, will wait until they are finished. Running on device 0 and device 1. Having gpu-z open twice, both gpu's show a usage of 75% or more. So it's possibly more a ui-problem than a device handling problem.

since clinfo is quite long I post a link.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/50246791/clinfo1.txt

I'm using beta-drivers for amd (13.6 beta; 13.5 beta 2 was last clean install).

BTW: when googling for intel driver url's I found this: (sorry, german)
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/CPU-Hardware-154106/News/Open-CL-Intel-Treiber-AMD-Prozessor-1068152/
Maybe it's nonsense, but maybe it helps making some apps a little bit faster.

I did a little more investigation.
Intel drivers have been in wrong directories, most likely caused by automatic installation from windows.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/50246791/intel%20opencl%202.PNG
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/50246791/intel%20opencl%201.PNG

So I thought Intel might be a good source for getting the correct drivers.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=3rd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+4000%2f2500&ZeroResult=True&lang=eng&ProdId=3498
This is a good source for the correct drivers.

Bios settings: primary graphic card pcie, gpu detection auto, dummy plug on vga-connector of internal gpu, monitor connected to first pcie graphic card.

@ HBE: What you posted some time ago regarding app_info and cc_config , is this still required or was this for testing only?
