new ATI driver for 79xx - http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/RC11Driver.aspx

in the "Resolved" section is:
Folding@Home: intermittent stability issues have been resolved for the OpenCL version of Folding@Home

Would I be correct in guessing that may have baring here as well?

so far of the 71 tasks given, 6 validated (all from 288larsson, who has the same GPU) 3 failed validation, and one error (I think do to a driver reset during processing or comp lockup). Remaining 60 are pending validation still.

Of those that failed validation, 2 had a windows with a older ATI GPU validate against a Linux running a NVidia GPU, the other had 2 windows comps both with a NVidia GPU. So looks like the validator still may have some work to do, but the app itself seem to be doing reasonably well without modification, aside from the low GPU usage. This may be solved by a cheep modification to what the server sends out of the app using 0.5 ATI instead of 1.

yes, with your 7970 as well. All others are either "waiting" or "inconclusive" against any other GPU, even against an ATI 6900 series. So it looks like currently only 7000 series may validate against other 7000 series GPUs...

According to GPUz, the current GPU load is around 45% on the card. "Would be nice" to have it used more.

Just a note for the devs, I have started working on this project again with my new AMD 7970. It is currently clocked at 1125 MHz GPU (highest CCC allows) and default memory, but from the reviews so far, this won't be a problem for the card.

host is at http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1306

I am also currently using the BOINC 7.0.7 x64 client on windows 8 x64

With the stock app, it is taking about 40 min for a WU to complete, but its waiting on validation, so I don't know yet if its usable.

Anyone else here with a AMD 79xx GPU want to comment on their experience?

I'm using the ATI 11.11 drivers and the 2.5SDK installed, on my i7 2600K @ 4.7GHz, i typically see 3-4% of the total CPU usage going to the albert openCL app... I have a ATI 6970 and running windows 8 x64. My typical GPU load is around 80%

wait for the 7000 series, should be announced on monday. This new series will have much reduced power consumptions, and improved performance over the 6000 series. Or, you can see if you can find the new entry level ATI 6930.

this project will not work for ATI openCL on 6.12.x clients, that version of BOINC doesn't report openCL capabilities of the host system.

credits for this alpha project are 500 per WU that validates, irregardless of how long it takes to run. Also, last I read this project is soon not going to export stats, if they haven't yet turned that off.

Is there any recomendation what ati driver one should use with an ATI5850
I've been testing a few and made 8% in 4 minutes with driver 11.9 and then my GPU clock downclockes for some reason and speeds gets very slow......
very slow==1task in 10 hours

I wonder if the tasks are in different sizes here...

Nope, simply depends on the GPU...

I did set my GPU clock speed higher than the default, but that wouldn't stop it from lowering the speed on low load. I don't know why I would be getting a higher load consistently than the rest of you guys.

I see that you get a totall runtime of the task for aprox 1hour...
What is GPU load% from time to time.

I seem to get very low GPU load% and only for a few seconds a minute.
I saw a Linux that also completed a task in 1hour.

I must do something wrong...

Another windows computor with 10hours runtime....

A linux with 1hour runtime....

I'm using a ATI 6970, and get about a 70% GPU load all the way through the app, at least during the several times I was looking. As for what SDK I used, I dunno, I just searched for "ATI SDK 2.5 on AMD's site. After I installed that, I ended up upgrading to the Radeon 11.11 drivers, with the APP installed as well.

I am running successfully now on my system with ATI 11.11, the AMD SDK 2.5, and BOINC 6.13.12. I do not know if installing the SKD is important or not, but it was one of my steps I took to get it to work initially. Also, I am running on Windows 8 64bit.
