Hi everyone,

After ironing out all kinks caused by the server code upgrade aftermath, we think that we're now finally in a position to migrate our website (albert) to Drupal. The original announcement can be found in this thread (it's still applicable).

Best,
Oliver

Hm, I can't reproduce that. For me it shows my name and "log out" as expected...

You're an administrator, the rest of us don't need to be logged onto that page, and can't logon because we aren't administrators.

You're mistaken, this has nothing to do with admin privileges. It's just a superfluous log in link that simply takes you to your account details - which doesn't make much sense here at all. It should be removed IMHO.

But yeah, I obviously missed the point of the original post :-)

The download failures are continuing. Did we lose a mount to a data storage device?

I also noticed intermittent networking issues with UWM. That seems to be unrelated to our work on the codebase. Sorry for the inconvenience...

We just updated the standard BOINC web code to (more or less) the latest version. This update was part of the general server code update we ran over the past days and is a prerequisite to go ahead with the Drupal migration.

The update went fairly well so far but we still need to verify that everything still works. So be prepared to hit a few bumps in the road over the next days...

6) Message boards : News : Server code upgrade aftermath: need to postpone Drupal migration (Message 112895)
Posted 6 Jun 2014 by Profile Oliver Behnke
Post:
Hi guys,

Last week we announced that we need to conduct the general server code upgrade before we can begin with the Drupal migration. As you might have read, we finally managed to upgrade the BOINC server code this week. However, it turned out that we were able to migrate the daemon- and database-related parts "only" so far. We didn't yet manage to upgrade the web code as this turned out to be much more complex than anticipated because, over the years, our codebase diverged significantly from upstream. That means we need to reassess the situation in a very detailed analysis. We might use this opportunity to reconsolidate our separate web code repository with the original upstream repo to facilitate coherent updates in the future.

All this means that we have to postpone the Drupal migration until we merged/upgraded the BOINC web code as well. You might think: "why do you have to update the BOINC web code when you plan to move to Drupal anyway?" Well, the BOINC web code comprises more than just the web front-end (eg. client RPC APIs) and Drupal still depends on a few of those features.

Sorry for the bad news. We're eager to get Drupal deployed but we need to have a stable foundation in terms of the regular BOINC server infrastructure first of all.

Cheers,
Oliver

Hi everyone,

You probably noticed it already: nothing happened :-) We found to issue in our preferences handling code that we wanted to resolve before we make the move. However, we're also working on a major update of the entire BOINC server codebase (planned for next week) which is why we decided to postpone the migration to the week of June 10th. Hopefully the server upgrade doesn't break anything concerning Drupal...

So, expect several downtimes over the next two weeks!

Cheers,
Oliver

Just a quick update: we've currently scheduled the migration to our new website (based on Drupal) for next week, until further notice. So please expect a downtime of the website during that week. The server backend should still be online so normal work fetch/uploads should continue to work...

See you on the other side...

Hi everyone,

After a longer public beta phase we decided that it's about time to migrate albert's web interface to Drupal proper. We're aware that some features we intend to provide for production (on einstein later on) aren't yet fully implemented and we also expect that there will be a few yet unknown bugs. However, albert is our test project after all, so let's get serious about it. The more people are using the new interface, the better we can prepare it for production use. So thanks in advance for your patience and feedback!

We're going to prepare this step over the coming days and will start without further notice.

For you this means that albert might soon be down for maintenance and data migration. The migration, once started, shouldn't take longer than a few days. Should we encounter significant issues or show stoppers we'll have back-out plans at hand and revert to the standard interface again.

See you on the other side...

Cheers,
Oliver

Yes, that's an effect of BOINC's new runtime estimation scheme we test here at Albert@Home. BOINC needs to gather statistics each time we release a new app version until the numbers converge on the actual/real/correct value...

This means an error occurred during GPU operations. You seem to be the only one with this particular error so it's not a general issue. Could very well be a driver issue...

Hi,

You may have noticed that we didn't produce new work units over the past few days. This was due to an infrastructure upgrade in our data center. While we made sure that our production project wasn't affected, our test project ran out of work. Oh well, it's a test project after all.

Anyway, we began producing work again, at least for the binary radio pulsar search, so you should be able to fetch new work units soon.

FYI, we're also going to update the BRP apps themselves over the next days. They include improvements that should make them more robust against external termination, in particular the GPU apps.

Thanks for your patience!
