Maybe not a one-off quirk after all. My TITAN cannot get any work for half a day now. It asks, and the server says it gets nothing. No explanation why though.

Thanks! All are crunching away on the GPU now, except for this one:

https://albert.phys.uwm.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8551

It is identical to all the rest, same app_config.xml (copy/pasted the same file from dropbox, so no editing differences), same location, everything. It asks for work, but gets none. Any ideas?

Here is one that did get work, for comparison:

Edit: Never mind. Half an hour later, it got some work. Odd. But no longer an issue.

It worked. Thanks!

Do I have to leave this setting indefinitely? If not, at what point can I remove the app_config and change the settings back to normal?

Just FYI, I had to take my two CUDA machines off albert for a while. I need to help a team mate at another project. I will be back.

This thread is too big to read through it all. I am back with my two GPUs. Is that still relevant? Or can I mess with my settings as I see fit?

I have 5 mac minis with HD 4000. They are all erring out. Here is a sample:

Just to close the loop, I added my HD 4000 macs just now and they are crunching away. Thanks!

Yeah, that is the one I was trying to get work for. But with the server status page down, no way to tell if there was work or not.

I'll upload a graph after lunch, when my monitor has cooled down and I've stopped laughing.

Just FYI, for the machine with the TITAN, I am running 3 GPU tasks and reserving two full CPU threads. For the GTX 680MX, I am running 2 GPU tasks and reserving two full CPU threads. Not sure that makes any difference for the purpose of this discussion. Just explaining why the run times are longer than they should be.

If your are going to use Dave's random number generator, I leave the project. Some CPU projects have fixed it to number generator of expected and acceptable range, but no GPU project has been successful in that deal. Good luck.

We know all that. The purpose of this test is, very specifically, to test and try out some fixes to CreditNew that some volunteers have spent the last nine months developing.

It would be most helpful if you would remain attached to the project, to generate some baseline data from a good range of hosts.

Albert has been chosen for this task specifically because it's a test project where nothing is expected to work anyway!

At first, I thought this test must be going on with other apps that I am not running, because my Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo, GPU) tasks were still getting a flat 1000 per. I guess it took a while to kick in. This morning, I can see all of the validated tasks with differing credits awarded. There are a couple with ~500. A couple ~300-400. All the rest range from 90-120 credits.

So, what do we need to do to get this CreditNew problem fixed?

Intel GPUs are now being shown by the project in the computer details pages:

Computer 9008

But 'Use Intel GPU' isn't being shown on the Albert project preferences page in spite of there being intel GPU apps available, perhaps those apps need their settings adjusted?

Claggy

+1 Still no setting in preferences to select intel GPU, like you can for AMD or nVidia. Other GPU projects have this, even Einstein.

I see that there is an app for intel GPU for OSX (FGRPopencl-intel_gpu-lion). How does one get tasks for this? I see only CPU, AMD or nVidia as options in the preferences.

Yeah, I have the same problem. Getting tired of constantly aborting intel GPU tasks on my machines that have no Intel GPUs.

On the other hand, I cannot get any tasks for my other machine that has an intel GPU.

I notice that there is no checkbox in the project preferences for intel GPU.

So how is it that there are tasks for intel GPU?

I am getting work now. and crunching just fine. Thanks!

FWIW: driver version is 1.2. It takes reserving a full thread to get the GPU load up to ~95%. Without doing that, GPU load is ~65%.

@ BM:
The settings needs rework; there is no tab to enable Intel-gpu like it is for AMD and nVidia and the GPU utilization factor of BRP apps has no effect.
GPU-Z says gpu usage between 86 and 98%, Mem usage dedicated 6MB, Mem usage dynamic 375MB. There is headroom left ...

Cheers

Alex

+1

Not sure why, but it is clear that updating the server to know intel GPU, does not also add the preferences selector. This happened at both SETI Beta and Collatz. So then the admin has to make a second change. Annoying for everybody.

Edit: I forgot to say thanks..... THANKS!

Edit 2: Hmm. Something seems wrong. Can't get work (on einstein):

I have intel GPU selected (and nothing else), and I have all 4 apps selected. According to the server status, all the queues are full of tasks ready to send.

Update: I think that one task at 709 seconds was an anomaly. All the rest have been 720-730 seconds, regardless of reserving an additional thread.

Here are results from my i7-3770S, no OC of the CPU or GPU. It has no additional discrete GPU. This is with BOINC showing 1CPU+1GPU.

With 1 additional thread reserved, 708 seconds, GPU load 96% flat:
https://albert.phys.uwm.edu/result.php?resultid=988045

With no additional thread reserved, 729 seconds, GPU load was a slightly wobbly ~93%:
https://albert.phys.uwm.edu/result.php?resultid=988042

It looks like reserving a thread helps a small bit. And that is odd, because according to task monitor, the task is using only about 5% of a thread (against a full thread reservation by BOINC). So that should mean it has 95% of a thread unused already, so why would manually reserving an additional thread improve anything?

Can't wait for the servers to be upgraded to have an intel check box!

FWIW, I have a couple boxes with both a nvidia discrete GPU + an intel HD 4000, crunching on both, with no monitors connected to either.
