Just a note for the devs, I have started working on this project again with my new AMD 7970. It is currently clocked at 1125 MHz GPU (highest CCC allows) and default memory, but from the reviews so far, this won't be a problem for the card.

host is at http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1306

I am also currently using the BOINC 7.0.7 x64 client on windows 8 x64

With the stock app, it is taking about 40 min for a WU to complete, but its waiting on validation, so I don't know yet if its usable.

Anyone else here with a AMD 79xx GPU want to comment on their experience?

According to GPUz, the current GPU load is around 45% on the card. "Would be nice" to have it used more.

yes, with your 7970 as well. All others are either "waiting" or "inconclusive" against any other GPU, even against an ATI 6900 series. So it looks like currently only 7000 series may validate against other 7000 series GPUs...

Your missing GPU name detection should be solved in BOINC 7.0.9; all the previous ones didn't know the Tahiti's yet. ;-)

No... 7.0.8 was only just released yesterday. But since they're released for bug-testing the CERNVM project, I would expect soon, especially since a big bug in one of the new features has been found for the Linux version. They may want to fix that and release new versions all across the platforms. :)

so far of the 71 tasks given, 6 validated (all from 288larsson, who has the same GPU) 3 failed validation, and one error (I think do to a driver reset during processing or comp lockup). Remaining 60 are pending validation still.

Of those that failed validation, 2 had a windows with a older ATI GPU validate against a Linux running a NVidia GPU, the other had 2 windows comps both with a NVidia GPU. So looks like the validator still may have some work to do, but the app itself seem to be doing reasonably well without modification, aside from the low GPU usage. This may be solved by a cheep modification to what the server sends out of the app using 0.5 ATI instead of 1.

I have still validation errors with completed WU on the 7950. Application seems to run fine, but the wingmen could not validate the results. Look here:
http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/workunit.php?wuid=42902
http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/workunit.php?wuid=42890

Any suggestions or hints for me.

Thanks
